How Workout Clothes Can Motivate You to Workout

It’s Monday, and you feel relaxed and ready to tackle the week ahead. There’s something about an entire week in front of you that makes you feel motivated to better yourself in any way you can—including, of course, hitting the gym. Your alarm sounds Monday morning, and you have every intention to burst out of bed and head to the gym before work, only to hit snooze one too many times. This habit repeats itself throughout the week, and before you know it, you haven’t gotten one workout in, and you feel sluggish going into the weekend.

We’ve all been there—when you promise yourself you’re going to go to the gym every day, only to press snooze, or drive right by the gym on your way home from work. What can help with this very relatable problem is … workout clothes.

We all know the people who look almost too put together at the gym or in a workout class, but maybe they’re doing something right. For me, there are few things in life as exciting as a brand- new workout outfit (bonus points if it’s a matching set). It sounds cliché, but walking into a workout class with a new outfit on is sometimes all it takes to give you that extra boost. And a recent studyagrees—85% of gym-goers believe that “cool looking” workout clothes gives them a confidence boost in the gym, whereas 9 out of 10 gym-goers agree that the act of putting on workout gear gets them motivated to hit the gym.

The numbers speak for themselves, but I’m here to reiterate the stats. A good outfit can instantly make me work a little harder during any given workout class. I know no one really cares besides me (it’s not like anyone else in the class knows it’s a new outfit) but it’s all about the positive mindset that this simple effort can give you. And it doesn’t require you breaking the bank for it to make a big difference—my favorite workout leggings were five dollars on the clearance rack at Old Navy, just saying.

Workout inspiration can be hard to come by, especially when it feels like you’re stuck in a rut. Treat yourself to a sweat-appropriate outfit and watch those motivation levels soar.
