It’s nearly spring, which means events are out in full spring swing. From arts and culture to food and drink, Orange County, California, is serving up things to do in spades. Let’s face it, any time is a good time to head to Southern California. The beaches, the relaxed vibe, the restaurant scene, and the to-die for sunsets all make a visit well worth it.
This March, head to The OC: a gem of a destination which includes numerous cities. It can best be identified by its idyllic sandy shores, boutique shopping experience, and top-notch dining. Here’s what’s to do as spring arrives this month in Orange County.
Shop ‘til you drop
Much like perusing along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, shopping in Orange County is more than just an activity, it’s an experience. The local retailers are ones to boast about. There’s Fashion Island in Newport Beach, which hosts exclusive boutique stores among recognizable department store staples. There’s also The Source in Buena Park: a new shopping addition to The OC that stands out due to its technological features, which makes the three-floor destination all the more worthy of your time. Head to Costa Mesa next, where you can truly shop local at The LAB. This self-proclaimed “anti-mall” is drawing attention to small businesses all the while giving you an indoor-outdoor community space. Enjoy fashion, art, and good food as you hang out.
Culinary heaven
Enjoying a meal outdoors, no matter where you are, is always an ideal way to unwind after a long day. But add in an oceanfront view during sunset, and you really can’t top that. If you’re in Laguna Beach, Studio features “modern, French cuisine with California influences,” and gives you a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. Just next door in Newport Beach is where you’ll find Oak Grill, an aesthetically-pleasing restaurant that’s classic menu isn’t to be underestimated. Other worthy dining options include Garlic and Chives, a Vietnamese spot in Garden Grove, Costa Mesa’s own Vaca, a Spanish-influenced dining hit, SeaSalt Woodfire Grill in Huntington Beach, which is known for their steak, and gastropub The Royal Hen in Newport Beach.
For all ages
Orange County is known to be a family-friendly destination, and for good reason. The theme parks and events offered year-round make this a place that those of any age will enjoy. Dana’s Point hosts Festival of Whales: an event that takes place across two weekends and features a parade, a pizza party, whale watching, ocean education programs, a beach BBQ, and other events. March 29th marks the start of Knott’s Boysenberry Festival and lasts until the end of April. This food festival in Buena Park has something for boysenberry enthusiasts young and old. Fast forward to mid-May and head to Newport Beach for the Balboa Island Artwalk to see paintings, photography, and tons of works by local artists.
